School project part of wider regeneration of Stockport’s town centre

Sheppard Robson has been appointed to design a brand new through school in the centre of Stockport.
The practice will lead a multidisciplinary design team including MEP, structural and civil engineers on the £2.1m job for Stockport metropolitan borough council.
The new school is envisaged as part of Stockport’s wider town-centre regeneration, which includes a £350m mixed-use development of 1,300 homes designed by Shedkm which was approved in August last year.
The council said the school project is of a “scale and vision to allow the appointed design team to make a significant contribution to one of Greater Manchester’s fastest growing areas”.
It added that it wants the “innovative” new through school to provide a “new educational model” for Stockport which will help shape a “more ambitious future for learners across the borough”.
The contract was awarded on 19 August and is expected to be signed on 7 September with work to start on 21 September and run for four years.
