Tower to replace existing 1980s office building
Ackroyd Lowrie and Leach Rhodes Walker’s plans for a 21-storey hotel and office scheme on the fringe of the City of London have been granted planning permission.
Tower Hamlets council’s planning committee unanimously voted in support of the 246-bed Standon House scheme yesterday evening.
Set to replace a 1980s office building with two linked blocks, the scheme will be the newest addition to the Aldgate tall building cluster where recently completed buildings include ACME’s The Haydon.
It will reprovide around 90% of the office space contained within the existing building along with a ground floor cafe, a rooftop restaurant with an external terrace and updated public realm.
The building is targeting a BREEAM Excellent rating with sustainbility measures including air source heat pumps, photovoltaic panels and mechanical ventilation with heat recoviery. Stone from the existing building will also be retained to form a feature wall in the new office reception.
Ackroyd Lowrie co-founder Oliver Lowrie said: “This is a fantastic result for the team and for Aldgate, and we are delighted to receive unanimous approval”.
He added: ”The improvements to the public realm, and the re-activation of the ground floor frontage will enliven the context around the building, and the striking façade will provide a new landmark on Mansell Street. We’re proud of what we’ve delivered here with LRW and the whole project team.”
